Five tons of anchovy are going to be cooked and distributed free of charge in Alanya. The traditional hamsa catching festival is organized by the Alanya Black Sea Association (ALKARDER). The festival will last two days – November 27 and 28. The main action will unfold on the square at the foot of the Red Fortress of Alanya.

According to the organizers, five tons of hamsa will be fried by chefs and distributed free of charge to the participants of the festival. Various souvenirs and products characteristic of the Mediterranean will be available for purchase at the event.

Local national ensembles and dance groups will also perform on the open stage during these days. Alanya Municipality invites everyone to participate in the Anchovy Catch Festival.

Anchovy, or hamsa, is one of the most popular small fish used for food. In the sea, it looks like a small green fish with blue reflections due to its silvery longitudinal band.
