7.4 million tourists visited Indonesia this year

Indonesia received 7.4 million tourists between January and August 2023. This number is expected to increase to 11 million by the end of the year, Antaranews reported.

In a weekly briefing, Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno said the target for tourist visits to the country is 8.5 million, up 1.1 million from the target set at the beginning of the year, adding that Indonesia has four more months to reach the target.

According to the Tourism Ministry, 1.13 million tourists visited Indonesia in August, up 68 percent year-on-year. Among all tourist destinations, the island of Bali, a center for yoga, surfing and beach vacations, led the way.

The largest number of foreign visitors came to Indonesia from Malaysia – 15.4% of tourists. They were followed by tourists from Australia (11.4%), Singapore (9.3%), China (7.52%) and Timor-Leste (5.68%).
