The Turkish Restaurant and Tourism Association (TÜRES) is going to introduce prepayment for restaurant reservations. Such measures are introduced to prevent situations where customers make reservations but do not show up.

Restaurateurs in Turkey have calculated their losses from no-shows without canceling reservations. The no-show rate was especially high during rush hour during Ramadan.

“If a group of 10 people reserve a table and don’t show up, it can cause a restaurant a loss of 20,000 TL (about $625) due to spoiled food and loss of potential customers,” said Ramazan Bingol, president of TÜRES.
Customers will now have to make a 50% prepayment to reserve tables. If it is canceled 24 hours before the scheduled time, the restaurant will refund the money.
