Alanya starts preparing for mayoral elections

The mayoral elections in Alanya will be held on March 31, 2024. Several candidates have already applied for the elections by December 7, 2023. According to Gundemalanya, Adem Murat Yucel will be the candidate of the National Movement Party (MHP) and Mustafa Toklu of the Justice and Development Party (AKP). The statements of the contestants have already been registered in Ankara.

The incumbent head of Alanya has 20 years of experience in leading the municipality. He has been the mayor of Kestel for two terms and has already led Alanya for two terms. The HDP stands on positions of pan-Turkism and is considered extreme right-wing in the Turkish political system.

Mustafa Toklu is running for mayor of Alanya from the AKP. This is a center-right party of conservative leaning. It is based on Western values. The leader of the political association is Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

On March 31, 2024, eligible voters will have to choose their candidate. According to Article 25 of Law No. 298 on the Basic Provisions on Elections and Voters’ Lists, voting in elections is a legal obligation. Voters can be fined if they fail to vote on election day. As of 2023, the administrative fine for ignoring elections in Turkey is 300 Turkish Liras.
