Eight beaches in Dubai have received the prestigious Blue Flag award. These are beaches in the Palm Jumeirah, Jebel Ali and Dubai Islands areas, managed by Dubai-based developer Nakheel.
The Blue Flag Award is given by an international environmental foundation for meeting high standards of water cleanliness, beautification and safety.
Every year a total of AED 15 million (about $4 million) is spent on the maintenance of Dubai’s urban beaches. The city authorities plan to expand the Emirate’s coastline by 400% by 2040. By this date, the length of public beaches will grow to 105 kilometers. About 300% should increase the number of restaurants, stores, sports and play areas.
The emirate’s government aims to consolidate Dubai’s leading position as one of the most beautiful and developed cities in the world. The city continues to amaze visitors and residents with successes and phenomenal achievements.
