The European Bank invested a record amount in Turkey's economy last year

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) made a record investment of €2.48 billion in the Turkish economy in 2023. Among all the economies in which the EBRD invested, Turkey ranked first. 58% of the investments were in the green finance category.

The EBRD invested €1.63 billion in Turkey in 2022 and €2 billion in 2021. The organization announced a multi-year investment plan aimed at rebuilding and reconstructing the economy of the region, which was affected by the earthquake. The amount of planned investments is €1.5 billion

In 2023, more than 30% of the EBRD’s investments accounted for the economy in the earthquake zone. Funds were provided to businesses, companies and individuals. Investments were also made in the infrastructure of the affected region.

During the past year, the EBRD also donated €41.5 million in Turkey.

Since 2009, the European Bank has provided €19 billion in financing to Turkey for 439 projects. 93% of these investments have gone to the private sector.
