The largest library in the region has been built in Antalya’s Kepez district. The grand opening took place on the day of the 100th anniversary of the Republic. This was reported by the press service of Antalya Municipality.
The library has an area of 8 thousand square meters, it can hold up to one million books. There can be 2,500 people in the halls at a time. Hundreds of thousands of books in Turkish, English and other languages are presented on the shelves of the library.
The building is globe-shaped with a transparent ceiling and large windows. This makes it possible to study in the halls almost all day long without turning on the lights. The same feature makes readers feel as if they are studying in nature. In the center of the library foyer stands a real olive tree. According to the architects’ idea, it symbolizes the fertility and abundance of the Mediterranean climate.
The building has a conference hall, exhibition areas, a café, a play area for children and a resting place on the roof. From it, you can admire the surrounding views of Antalya.
Entrance is free for Turkish citizens and foreigners with residence permits. The library is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
