In Turkey, the number of people aged 65 and over increased by 5.22%. In 2017, 6.89 million people over 65 lived in the country, and by 2023 their number has grown to 8.45 million. Such data was published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK).
When counting the elderly population by age group, it can be seen that in 2022 64.5% fall on people aged 65-74. At the same time, 27.7% belonged to the group of 75-84 years and 7.9% – to people aged 85 and older. In 2022, 44.4% of the elderly population was male and 55.6% female.
Experts attribute the increase in the number of older people to the improvement in living standards in Turkey. Recently, the level of medical care has increased in the country. In addition, the state provides reliable social guarantees for the elderly.
A foreign citizen who receives a Turkish passport can count on all the social benefits provided for the local population.
