On August 30, Turkey has a big holiday – the 99th anniversary of the Battle of Dumlupinar. Then, in 1922, the Turkish army defeated the Greek occupation forces.

In honor of the holiday, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan laid a wreath in Ankara at the mausoleum of the founder of the republic, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. He considers this date one of the important turning points in the history of Turkey.

“I celebrate the Victory Day of our nation, the Turkish Cypriots and our citizens living in various countries around the world on August 30th. The spirit, faith and will that inspired the Great Victory determine the direction for our nation today, as it did 99 years ago, ”Erdogan said in a written message to citizens.
