It is planned that gold production in Turkey will reach 100 tons per year. Revenues from exports of precious metals are planned to rise to $15 bln.

Ali Emiroglu, president of the Turkish Miners Association (TMD), said $13 billion to $18 billion is needed for exploration.

“There are two goals. One is to increase exports to $15 billion. And the second is to reach the annual gold production target of 100 tons. Our country has the potential to achieve this goal,” the TMD president said.

Gold mining in Turkey began in 2001. To date, a total of 452 tons of gold has been produced. In 2023, gold production is expected to be around 38 tons.

As for Turkey’s gold imports, they remained high in the first eight months of 2023.

“Between January and October, Turkey imported about $26.5 billion worth of gold. In the same period last year, just over $15 billion. Thus, gold imports increased by 75 percent,” Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat said.
