The general elections that were to be held in Turkey on May 14, 2023 may be postponed. After the catastrophe that hit Turkey on February 6 this year, the election commission proposed to postpone the voting for a period of 6 to 12 months. Well-known politicians in Turkey also insist on postponing the date of the elections. In their opinion, the country must first get out of a stressful state, and then it can proceed to such serious political decisions.
Another reason why the elections should be postponed is the voter lists. By May 14, they may not have time to prepare, because of broken houses ongoing removal in earthquake area, and not many citizens have yet been officially recognized as dead.
At the same time, the ruling party proposed a new date – June 18. But on this day, thousands of Muslims perform the Hajj, so many citizens will not be able to vote.
According to the latest data, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan does not intend to postpone the election date. He stated this at a government meeting last Wednesday. However, the question still remains open.
